Inside/Outside at Nielsen Arts

I am honored and excited to announce my solo exhibition “Inside/Outside” at Nielsen Arts and Framing in Berkeley, CA, opening Saturday, September 30th. I’ve been working on this show for months and keeping the internet exposure to hints all the while, so it feels great to finally begin posting the work here. This will be the inaugural show in the gallery’s new location at 1545 Solano Avenue. Hope to see you there!

Show Dates: Sept. 25 –Nov. 28, 2023
Opening Reception: Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, 6:30–9 pm
Location: Nielsen Arts,

I’ll be drawing live at the Children’s Fairyland “Drawn Together” fundraiser event on Friday, August 18th, alongside John Casey and other artists. Tickets are available now, and they do sell out quickly, so get yours soon. This is a 21+ event.

On Friday, August 18, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., you are invited to enjoy a magical adults-only evening at Children’s Fairyland park to watch 50+ local artists and industry professionals try their hand at creating Fairyland-inspired artwork. You’ll have a chance to buy their pieces at the end of the night’s live art sale in the Merry Meadow. If you’ve been before, you’ll know the “auction” can be spirited as visitors engage in friendly competition for each work of art. Every piece is priced at $50, so it’s an affordable and fun way to support this legendary family attraction.

Additional entertainment includes a live DJ spinning all night, tarot readings, a puppet show, and more.

Mushroom art

Game of Shrooms 2023

Another great day of offering art “in the wild” as part of the annual Game of Shrooms event, along with John Casey and a raft of East Bay artists posting to IG. This global hide-and-seek adventure has gotten even bigger this year, with more artists contributing in newly added countries, and an even bigger group of art-foragers searching the world for free mushroom art. There are contributors on all seven continents now, even Antarctica!

Anyone can take part in this event as an artist, anywhere in the world. And anyone can hunt for their freely distributed, but typically hidden, pieces. If you’d like to hunt for mushroom art in 2024, check out the worldwide map to see if people are leaving mushrooms in your area; I am sure there will be even more players next year.  For more information, see GoS founder Attaboy’s website.

Exhibition Details:
About Face, a juried and invitational exhibition, continues the fascinating tradition of creating portraits, using a contemporary lens to speculate how future generations might perceive the way we value beauty, power, and ultimately what we hold culturally significant. The practice of creating portraits dates back nearly 12,000 years to the Neolithic era. What began as plastered human skulls has evolved into paintings, photographs, and sculpture that not only capture the likeness of an individual, but also provide clues about the cultural and societal context in which the person lived.

IYKYK at Helvella

Busy, busy this December!

I have two pieces available at the forthcoming Helvella winter show, IYKYK (if you know you know). “Blue Flower” and “Orange Flower” are separate but complementary pieces, both 8″ x 8″ and priced at $275.

The show is centered around affordable art from local artists, showcasing unique and special pieces to holiday shoppers for the gifting season. If you’re looking for interesting and creative options, perhaps for that hard-to-shop-for person, this show offers a range or styles with everything priced at $300 or less.

510 All Stars at Nielsen Arts

Things are getting busy this fall, just in time for the holidays. First up is the 510 All Stars show at Nielsen Arts on Solano Avenue in Berkeley, opening on December 3rd.

My latest piece, Butterfly II, is one of 70 pieces by an array of wonderful East Bay artists. John Casey and I both have works in this show. All pieces are 10″ x 10″ on panel, in a wide range of styles. I am looking forward to seeing lots of friends in attendance.

Though this show is a gallery tradition, it hasn’t occurred since before the pandemic began, so it’s nice to have it back in action. In addition to a wealth of art and camaraderie at the opening, there will also be delicious gumbo!

And if crowds and events still feel uncomfortable, the gallery shop is open daily Monday–Saturday from 10–6, as well.

  • Nielsen Arts
  • Exhibiton Dates: December 3, 2022–February 10, 2023
  • Opening Reception: Saturday, December 3, 6–9 pm
